About the program

A school for the
unhurried hand.

Hairbru is a twelve-week residency for natural hair professionals who want to build a craft, not just a clientele. We work in small cohorts, in real salons, with the kind of attention that produces technicians and artists at once.

Our origin

Built by working stylists, for working stylists.

We started Hairbru because the path into natural hair work is still mostly self-taught. Stylists assemble it in pieces — a YouTube tutorial here, a borrowed apprenticeship there — and show up at chairs without the foundation the work deserves.

Our program closes that gap. Twelve weeks of structured instruction, hands-on salon hours, mentorship, and a final public assessment that places graduates in chairs around the country.

Principles

What we refuse to compromise on.

  1. 01

    Small cohorts.

Fewer than a dozen students per cohort. Every hand is watched. Every braid is critiqued.

  2. 02

    Real chairs.

We do not train on mannequins alone. You will work on real heads, with real expectations, from week three.

  3. 03

    A lifelong network.

Graduates join an alumnae circle that exchanges work, references, and contracts long after the program ends.
